Dauphin Island Attractions and Activities

BEACHES -- Dauphin Island is known for its un-crowded white sandy beaches. Lounge for hours on the beach improving your tan, or just relax while reading a book.

FORT GAINES -- Established in 1821. Site of the famous "Battle of Mobile Bay". Monthly events depicting different eras throughout the Fort and Dauphin Island's history.

ESTUARIUM -- An educational exhibit reflective of Mobile-Tensaw river delta, Mobile Bay, Barrier Island and the Gulf of Mexico sea life.

BIRD SANCTUARY -- 160 acres of woodlands with a fresh water lake. Walking trails give access to numerous varieties of plant life and bird species. Nationally known migration route for all manner of birds and butterflies heading to Central and South America.

INDIAN SHELL MOUND -- Large shell mound built by early native Indians to honor their deceased relatives.

CHARTER FISHING -- Numerous charter boats depart from Dauphin Island daily for deep sea fishing trips.

ISLAND CRUISES -- See Dauphin Island from the water, take a cruise and enjoy the many beauties the Island offers. Watch Dolphins swim along with the boat, pelicans diving for their meals, or enjoy a late evening cruise and watch a beautiful sunset.

ISLE DAUPHINE GOLF COURSE -- Very challenging course. Enjoy fairways that border the beach and putt on greens that overlook the Gulf. Then relax at the 19th hole and enjoy a spectacular view of Sand Island and the Gulf. Tennis courts are also available.

FISHING -- Several opportunities are available. The Public Beach Pier is an 850 ft long pier that is open 24 hours a day. Cedar Point Pier is located at the north end of the bridge. Concession and tackle shop is available. Fort Gaines Pier is free to the public; perfect for fishing or watching ships enter or exit Mobile Bay

USS ALABAMA -- World War II destroyer along with other military displays.

BELLINGRATH GARDEN --Provides breathtaking colors of Azaleas in the spring and chrysanthemums in the fall. Located only 18 miles from the Island.

RIVERIA OUTLET MALL -- Over 100 outlet stores, one to fill your every need.

MOBILE BAY FERRY -- A 45 minute ride to Alabama's eastern shores
